KCCF visits grantees supporting food systems and skills in Cambridge

This month we had the pleasure of visiting two grantees in the East of England to find out how funding from KCCF has helped support new and existing projects in and around Cambridgeshire.

Cambridge Sustainable Food CIC (CSF)

CSF is a dedicated not for profit organisation working to build a fairer, more sustainable food system which supports the community and the environment. Their mission is to advocate for healthy, sustainable food that is accessible to everyone – food that supports both personal health and the planet, while also boosting the local economy.

CSF was recently honoured with the prestigious Gold Award from Sustainable Food Places, in recognition of their exceptional contributions to sustainable food practices.  This accolade is a significant achievement, as only three Gold Awards have been granted across the UK since 2015, placing CSF among an elite group of changemakers in food sustainability.

CSF’s work has garnered further support through a two-year grant from His Majesty’s Coronation Food Project, with backing from King Charles III Charitable Fund (KCCF). This funding is being used to strengthen and expand their existing surplus food distribution programs, which are aimed at providing low-income communities in Cambridge with greater access to healthy, surplus food. The grant is helping CSF to scale up its impact, reaching more vulnerable households and continuing to build a fairer, more resilient local food system.

Prospects Trust 

Marking 35 years of “Growing Differently” at Snakehall Farm, their 18-acre organic site in rural Cambridgeshire offers meaningful work opportunities and skills training for individuals with additional needs, learning disabilities, and autism.

Snakehall Farm operates as a fully functioning farm, cultivating a diverse range of sustainable, seasonal organic fruits, vegetables, and herbs, which are sold locally through their onsite farm shop. However, the heart of the Prospects Trust lies beyond agriculture. Their mission is centred on fostering inclusion and independence, empowering “co-workers” in a supportive environment where they can develop new skills, build confidence, and contribute to the community.

Thanks to a small grant from KCCF, the farm is now developing an accessible nature reserve onsite for the local community to enjoy.  For more information, please click here.
