M&S / 2 Sisters

In a groundbreaking initiative, M&S Food and its long-term supplier, 2 Sisters Food Group, a prominent player in the food industry, teamed up with FareShare to combat food insecurity in the UK through the Coronation Food Project.

This alliance, which entered its second phase in June, saw M&S committing an additional 1.5 million unique M&S branded meal servings of bespoke recipes developed by M&S chefs. These meals, such as Vegetable Curry, Carrot & Coriander Soup, and Family Sized Pizza, are freshly prepared from surplus ingredients within the retailer’s existing supply chain, which might otherwise go to waste. FareShare distributes them throughout its network as part of the Coronation Food Project.

After donating one million freshly prepared ‘Eat Well’ M&S meals in late 2023, the retailer and 2 Sisters worked together to use under-utilised capacity at its South Wales, Nottingham, and Grimsby locations. These efforts ensure that families in need receive high-quality nutrition with freshly prepared meals.

This partnership, which harnesses surplus ingredients and crucial support from the supply chain, is making significant strides in reducing food waste. It’s a concerted effort to tackle food insecurity across the UK.
