As we mark International Women’s Day 2025, King Charles III Charitable Fund (KCCF) continues to champion and accelerate the achievements of women, striving to create a world where every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive. Whether it’s through sports, education, or community empowerment, the projects we support seek to shape a more inclusive, equitable, and hopeful future.
Breaking barriers in women’s sports
In Scotland’s Forth Valley, the Carron Huskies Ladies Football Team is redefining opportunities for women in sports. With the support of a KCCF grant, the club provides a safe and inclusive space for women of all ages and abilities to stay active, improve their well-being, and foster leadership skills.
Offering free fitness training, health education, and nutritional guidance, the initiative has already engaged 30 women—enhancing their confidence, physical health, and social connections. With aspirations to expand across Central Scotland and compete in grassroots football leagues, the club is helping to level the playing field for women in sports.
Empowering Muslim women through community engagement
Beyond sports, KCCF is supporting the Muslim Women’s Council in its mission to empower women and create a more equitable society. Guided by its vision “for every woman, life with all its opportunities”, the Council is driving change through projects like the Curry Circle in Yorkshire, which is open every Thursday at Manningham Library from where they offer free nutritious food as they alleviate the cost-of-living issues.
KCCF funding through our Coronation Food Project is helping to expand the reach of the Curry Circle. This plays a crucial role in combating food poverty while supporting women in the community and their families by providing essential resources and advice.
The Curry Circle also serves as a safe space for Muslim women to volunteer away from traditional roles, gaining valuable skills, building confidence, and overcoming cultural barriers. Many participants have leveraged this experience as a stepping stone towards employment, greater social independence, paving the wayforgender equality.
Transforming girls education in Ghana
KCCF’s impact extends beyond the UK. A small grant awarded to EduSpots, a ground-breaking initiative, is working to enhance education in 50 underserved communities in rural Ghana.
Over 10,000 children and young adults will gain access to quality education through the creation of ‘Spots’—community-led learning hubs that foster academic and personal growth. These hubs provide mentorship, leadership training, and essential literacy programs, encouraging young girls to pursue education and unlock their full potential.
The education programme also focuses on tackling period poverty, ensuring that menstrual hygiene is never a barrier to education and that young girls can continue their studies with dignity.
