Anglo Romanian Trust for Traditional Architecture
- Heritage and Conservation
Saving heritage buildings and connecting communities with expert craftsmen.
ARTTA works in Romania to spread awareness of the deterioration in Romania’s historic fabric and the need for and merit in its restoration through encouraging traditional craftsmanship and the production of traditional materials, providing training and work for local people.
Of particular note, the ‘Ambulance for Monuments’ project acts as a way for local volunteers to help protect and repair high profile cultural monuments. This programme has forged a new and dynamic community throughout Romania that continues to grow.
Those who take part benefit first-hand from the guidance and knowledge of expert craftsmen, developing a broad range of practical skills, which include joinery, roofing, stonemasonry, lime plastering and pointing.
ARTTA also provides restoration guidance and wider advice to specific projects.
