  • Environment

18 million hectares of forest benefiting from improved management, protection, and restoration between 2015 and 2020.

BirdLife’s purpose is to protect birds and nature under threat, so that all life on the planet can flourish. They are working to:

  • prevent extinctions
  • protect the most vital habitats
  • make human activities kinder to the planet through nature-based solutions
  • mobilise society to take positive action

KCCF is supporting the Forests programme with a strategic partnership grant which is working to restore landscapes and foster harmonious relationships between people and the natural environment through nature-based solutions. The Forests programme is currently being delivered in 18 flagship tropical forest landscapes across the world and a further 29 landscapes are in the pipeline for development. By 2027, BirdLife hope that the Forests programme will achieve:

  • 9 million hectares of forested Key Biodiversity Areas are better conserved through strengthened management and protection.
  • 813,000 tonnes CO2 of deforestation emissions reduced.
  • 0.5 million people engaged/mobilised for conservation in target landscapes.
  • New and strengthened protected areas and nature reserves target some of the most important places for biodiversity and ecosystem services.
  • Active restoration (i.e. tree planting) undertaken for 5,000 hectares across the priority landscapes.
  • Natural regeneration and assisted natural regeneration facilitated across 10,000 hectares.

The Forest Impact Accelerator will enable BirdLife Partners to test, design and develop sustainable finance structures that generate new revenues and positive incentives for forests and the communities who depend on them. BirdLife hope that this will leverage £7 million of additional funding.
