Distributes consumer goods donated by brands and companies to their network of 3,500 charity partners.
In Kind Direct (IKD) has been supported by The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Fund (PWCF) for many years. In 2020, PWCF awarded a grant of £75,000 to create the additional infrastructure needed to cope with an unprecedented surge in demand for the services of In Kind Direct as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In Kind Direct distributes consumer goods donated by brands and companies to their network of 3,500 charity partners. During the pandemic, many of these charity partners found themselves on the front line, providing support to individuals unable to access basic consumer goods. The amount of stock donated also increased by 300%, as more brands and companies partnered with IKD.
As a result, an investment in infrastructure was required to ensure IKD could continue to meet demand and help beneficiaries. PWCF supported IKD to put in place COVID-secure delivery and distribution, new overflow storage, additional temporary labour, PPE and warehouse materials. These measures enabled IKD to distribute £15m worth of products across the UK in 2020, helping approximately 600,000 people.
Charity partners were provided with varying packages dependent on their needs; for example the Spearhead Trust, which helps families on the Druid Heath estate in Birmingham, distributed laundry supplies and toiletries from IKD to their beneficiaries. The YMCA in Exeter turned to IKD during the pandemic to provide wellbeing bags to 60 young people. IKD helps to distribute goods where they are needed most, supporting beneficiaries across Great Britain.
