Morrisons / Newton
Morrisons has taken a project management-led approach to tackling food waste through a new collaboration with FareShare and Newton, highlighting the importance of operational efficiency in addressing complex supply chain challenges.
At the heart of the initiative is the Flaxby facility, where Newton worked alongside Morrisons’ engineering and manufacturing teams to identify previously untapped opportunities for food recovery.
By leveraging Newton’s analytical capabilities and problem-solving expertise, the team created an innovative solution that allows surplus vegetables to be recovered for human consumption. Integrating these waste reduction methods into Morrisons’ supply chain has already led to the redistribution of millions of meals.
The initiative is increasing in scale. Up to 26 pallets of surplus food are now being collected weekly for redistribution, and additional expansion is planned for other production sites, including those in Surrey and Northamptonshire.
