The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Fund congratulates Turquoise Mountain of which The Prince of Wales is Patron, and applauds Decorex for recognizing Turquoise Mountain’s 'attention to diversity and bringing together a multitude of cultures in their designs'.

Turquoise Mountain, a charity founded by The Prince of Wales in 2006, supports artisan producers in the Middle East and Asia, to enable clients and buyers to access high quality handmade rugs, fabrics, furniture, and accessories inspired by the heritage of artisans, and suitable for luxury markets.

Working with master artisans, Turquoise Mountain has developed a catalogue of in-house carpets, fabrics and furniture, and offer bespoke service to develop custom-made pieces for clients. All products are handmade using traditional techniques and local supply chains and can be developed to reflect authentic heritage and unique stories.

Since 2006, Turquoise Mountain has revitalized artisanal communities and supported them to generate income through heritage and craftsmanship. The charity has restored 150 historic buildings in the Old City of Kabul, trained over 6,000 artisans, treated almost 136,000 patients at its clinic, and curated major international exhibitions.

Turquoise Mountain is creating jobs for thousands of artisans across Afghanistan, Myanmar and the Middle East, most of whom are women and all of whom earn above the market rate.

Zin Mar Swe, one of the lacquer artisans the charity supports in Bagan, Myanmar says “I learned etching when I was seven or eight years old. After giving birth to my child, who is now two and a half, I was just staying home. Then I was asked to join this workshop…I am happy now working on different flower designs, small patterns, and paying attention to all the little details.”
